Sizing up your appliance for shipping can be a little tricky, especially if you’re not familiar with the tape solutions that are needed to protect it from damage and ensure it makes it safely to its destination. With careful consideration and preparation, though, you can successfully pack your appliance using reliable packing supplies that are readily available on the market today. Here are five tips to help you make sure your appliance arrives in perfect condition:

1) Avoid Damaging Parts

This tip might seem obvious, but it’s an easy mistake to make. Your first instinct might be to wrap your appliances in a single layer of bubble wrap. Unfortunately, though, that’s not going to do much. In fact, all you’re doing is wrapping your appliance in lots of paper; that means your appliances are more likely to get damaged during shipping if something shifts and bumps into them. An air bubble wrap film can help you separate each individual piece inside of a box and also reduce wrinkling. You can also use a stretch film to secure appliances while they’re being shipped or moved around onsite during installation.

2) Make It Shippable

Before you ship your appliance, take a look at it with fresh eyes and imagine that it’s going to be sitting in someone’s kitchen. What needs to go into its box? If you can easily slide it out of its box, you need more protection than if your product is built like a tank (this will vary by product, obviously). It’s not just about making sure your appliance arrives in one piece—it’s also about making sure people will want to buy from you again. The best way to ensure they’re happy customers is shipping your item so that it works right out of its packaging! Most modern appliances come with air-filled plastic inserts designed to keep them upright. Use these as protectors; they’ll help guard against movement damage as well as voids in packaging material around sensitive areas on a machine. There are two basic types of film used for packing appliances: stretch and shrink wrap. Stretch wrap looks better, but shrinks over time; shrink wrap has an industrial aesthetic, but stays tight over time if handled correctly. Make sure you know what type you’re getting before you seal up your product!

3) Put Items Together Carefully

When you’re packing appliances, it’s important to put items together carefully. Every time you ship an appliance, there are plenty of opportunities for damage along its journey: our tape solutions can add an extra layer of protection and help move your product as smoothly as possible. For example, if you need to stretch wrap your appliance before shipping, use air bubble wrap on top of—not underneath—your appliance to protect it from damage during transit. Next, place a roll of opp-tape over your air bubble wrap to secure everything in place. This could help prevent shifting or any other movement that could result in dents or scratches while en route. 4) Use the Right Materials

Air bubble wrap and stretch film are two essential packing materials used to protect appliances during shipping. These materials are most effective when they’re used in conjunction with each other, but they can also be combined with other products such as paper or wooden pallets to make sure your customers get their purchases intact. If you’re shipping an appliance in a box, we recommend you use two layers of bubble wrap—one on top of the appliance and one underneath—as well as four to six layers of stretch film (total) to properly prepare your goods for transit. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with using more than eight layers if you’d like!
