Choosing tape
What width and micron of OPP tape do I need for standard cartons?
For a standard carton up to about 15kg, 48mm-wide OPP tape at 40–45 micron is the workhorse spec: one strip along the centre seam with a 50–75mm overlap down each end panel. For cartons in the 15–25kg range, step up to 48 micron or a 72mm width, or keep the 48mm tape and seal in an H-pattern (centre seam plus both edge seams). Browse the full range on our OPP and packing tapes page. Above 25–30kg, tape width alone stops being the answer — see the heavy-carton question below.
Why does my tape peel off in the warehouse heat?
Almost always adhesive creep. Un-airconditioned Malaysian warehouses sit at 30–38°C, and hot melt adhesive — common on cheap packing tape — softens at those temperatures and slowly lets go under the constant spring-back of the carton flaps. Switching to an acrylic-adhesive OPP tape usually fixes it, because acrylic holds its grip far better through heat and ages more slowly. If acrylic tape is also lifting, check the carton surface: dust and humidity-softened board give any pressure-sensitive adhesive very little to grip.
What is the difference between acrylic and hot melt OPP tape?
The adhesive, not the film. Acrylic adhesive is heat- and UV-stable, so a sealed carton stays sealed through months of hot storage — it is the default recommendation for Malaysia. Hot melt is a synthetic rubber adhesive with higher initial tack: it grabs recycled or slightly dusty board instantly, which fast packing lines like, but it creeps once the warehouse heats up. If cartons are shipped out within days, hot melt is fine; if they sit in storage, use acrylic.
Which tape should I use for heavy cartons above 20kg?
First fix the taping pattern: an H-pattern in 48 micron acrylic OPP, or a 72mm width, handles most cartons in the 20–30kg range. Beyond that, water-activated gummed paper tape is the honest answer — it bonds into the carton fibre itself rather than relying on pressure-sensitive grip, so heat and flap spring-back cannot peel it. Our carton sealing failure guide walks through the full decision, including when the problem is the carton, not the tape.
Can I use masking tape to seal cartons for shipping?
No. Masking tape has a crepe paper backing with low tensile strength and an adhesive designed for clean removal — the opposite of what a shipping seal needs. It is fine for bundling light items, labelling shelves or holding flaps during packing, but a sealed carton will pop it in transit. The differences are covered in detail in OPP tape vs masking tape vs cellophane tape.

Stretch film
What micron stretch film should I use for pallet wrapping?
Indicatively: light, uniform cartons around 17 micron; mixed or heavier loads around 20 micron; heavy or irregular loads 23 micron and up. Hand rolls in Malaysia are typically 17–23 micron cast film. Going thicker than the load needs wastes money on every pallet; going thinner shows up as corner tears and shifted loads. See our pallet stretch film range for the options.
What is the difference between stretch film and shrink wrap?
Stretch film is stretched as it is applied and holds the load by elastic tension — no heat involved. Shrink wrap is applied loose and then shrunk tight with a heat gun or tunnel. For securing pallets, stretch film is the right tool; shrink wrap suits retail bundling and fully sealed presentation. The full comparison is in stretch film vs shrink wrap.
How much stretch film should one pallet use?
As an indicative figure, a typical hand-wrapped pallet uses around 250–400g of film, depending on load height, micron and wrap pattern. If your usage is far above that, the usual culprits are over-wrapping (extra revolutions instead of proper film tension) or a micron too thin for the load, which tempts wrappers to add layers. Machine wrapping with pre-stretch reduces film use dramatically compared with hand application.
Why does my stretch film keep tearing at the corners?
Three common causes: sharp or protruding corners on the load, film stretched beyond its limit at the moment it passes the corner, and nicked roll edges from rolls being dropped or stood on concrete. Fixes, in order of cost: handle rolls with more care, ease the tension slightly as you round corners, add corner boards on abrasive loads, and only then move up a micron. More selection detail is in our tips for choosing the right stretch film for pallets.
Ordering and MOQ
What is the MOQ for custom printed tape?
MOQ depends on the product — tape width, roll length and the number of print colours all change the answer. WhatsApp us the design idea, size and quantity you have in mind and you will get a same-conversation answer on MOQ and pricing. Plain stock tapes carry much smaller minimums than printed runs.
Do you sell small quantities, or only bulk?
Both. Because we stock our ranges at our Seri Kembangan warehouse, we can supply smaller mixed orders — a few cartons of tape, a bundle of stretch film rolls, some dispensers — as well as regular bulk supply. Tell us what you need and we will confirm availability directly; there is no need to guess at a minimum before asking.
How do I get a quote fast?
WhatsApp us with the product, size (width and micron if you know them), quantity and your delivery area. A photo of the tape or film you currently use helps us match or improve on the spec. Quotes are handled in the same conversation wherever the spec is clear.
Delivery and service area
Do you deliver outside the Klang Valley?
Yes. We are based in Seri Kembangan and the Klang Valley is our home ground, but we supply customers throughout Malaysia. WhatsApp us your location together with the products and quantities, and we will confirm the delivery arrangement for your area in the same conversation.
Can I collect my order from your warehouse?
We are at No 2, Jalan BS 9/12, Geo Industrial Park, Taman Bukit Serdang, Seksyen 9, 43300 Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Contact us first — by WhatsApp or on +603-8942 9960 — so we can confirm stock before you make the trip.
Custom printing
What can be printed on custom tape?
Your logo, company name, website, and handling instructions such as FRAGILE or THIS WAY UP — in your brand colours on a clear, white or brown OPP base. See custom printed packing tape for examples and to start an enquiry. Print-ready artwork is ideal, but a clean logo file is usually enough to begin.
Is printed tape worth it compared to plain tape plus labels?
For regular shippers, usually yes: one sealing pass replaces tape plus a separate labelling step, every carton leaves branded, and a re-taped carton is immediately obvious — useful tamper evidence. The cost per metre is higher than plain tape, so for very low volumes a plain tape and a rubber stamp can honestly be the cheaper option. The break-even is about volume; send us your monthly carton count and we will tell you which side of it you sit.
Quality and ISO
Is 2S Packaging ISO certified?
Yes — 2S Packaging Sdn Bhd is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and has been since January 2022. In practical terms it means our quality management is documented and audited, so the tape you reorder in December behaves like the tape you tested in January: same adhesive, same micron, same release.
How should I store tape and stretch film in Malaysia’s climate?
Keep rolls in their original packaging, out of direct sunlight and away from zinc roofing or west-facing walls — radiant heat ages adhesive faster than ambient air does. Store tape rolls flat on their sides, not standing on the cut edge, and rotate stock first-in-first-out. Under those conditions tape keeps its performance well; left in the sun on a loading dock, even good acrylic tape will deteriorate.
